Botulinum toxin known as Botox is a neurotoxic compound which acts by relaxing muscles and its infiltration is used to cosmetically treat facial wrinkles which have come about due to repetitive facial movements and expression.
How is done?
The procedure consists in superficially injecting very low doses of toxin into the area to be treated, in small drops and with a very fine needle. Therefore it is virtually painless and only produces a slight redness in the injected areas
The botox is always applied directly and personaly by Dr. Ruiz Ruiz, who is autorized by Consejeria de Salud de la Junta de Andalucia.
In most cases one session of Botox is not enough and normally the patient will require some small retouches. However the patient must wait six months between the first and second sessions, the third session should not be after eight months and finally, an annual “top-up” session is required.
Result of botox treatment
The result starts to show two or three days later, and is complete after one week. Thebotulinum toxin paralyses the muscular fibres into which it is injected, and thereby relaxes the muscles that produce the wrinkles ensuring that they practically disappear.
Repeated injections will reduce the strength of the muscle, significantly reducing the manifestation of lines and wrinkles, which means that the injections are required at decreasingly regular intervals.
The toxin, in the doses used, is not toxic, and its side effects are minimal, although it should not be used during pregnancy, breast-feeding, nor in areas close to inflammation or infection.
