Specialist doctor in plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery
In Spain, the Qualification of Graduate in Medicine and Surgery permits – in theory – the performance of any medical procedure. However one is only a Specialist Doctor in Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery when they have acquired the expertise and skills required within that field.
The specialty of Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery requires five years of practice as a Resident Intern Doctor in an accredited hospital to which access is gained after an official examination popularly known as the M.I.R. and only doctors who are in possession of the title of Specialist in Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery have the professional training to provide a patient with maximum quality healthcare.
Neither Cosmetic Surgery nor Cosmetic Medicine exist as a specialty, they are simply one of the fields of activity of the Specialty of Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery. Therefore, you must demand that the doctor that you choose is in possession of the Title of Specialist in Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, issued by the Ministry of Education and Science.
